Meet Salamanca
Rafael Salamanca Jr. has spent his career standing up for the Bronx. As the son of first-generation Puerto Rican parents, he has a deep connection to the borough he calls home. Raised in the Bronx and now raising his own family here, Rafael knows firsthand the challenges and opportunities our community faces. From his early career in healthcare to his leadership as District Manager of Bronx Community Board 2 and now as Council Member for the 17th District, he has been driven by one mission: to make life better for the people of the Bronx.
As Chair of the City Council’s Land Use Committee, Rafael has made affordable housing a top priority, ensuring thousands of new homes are built for families, seniors, and veterans. He has secured over $400 million in capital investments to strengthen our borough—creating good-paying jobs, improving schools, and making our neighborhoods safer. And with even more investment coming from the rebuilding of the Hunts Point Produce Market, his commitment to the Bronx remains as strong as ever.
For Rafael, this work isn’t just professional—it’s personal. He’s raising his family right here in the Bronx, and like every parent in this borough, he wants to make sure the next generation has a real shot at success. That means safe streets, good schools, and a city that works for the people who built it.

Now, he’s running for Bronx Borough President because there’s still more to do. The Bronx needs a leader who understands this borough, who knows what it takes to bring people together and get real results. Someone who will fight every day to deliver for working families—more affordable housing, stronger public safety, better schools, and real economic opportunity.
With a proven record of experience, results, and commitment, Rafael is ready to roll up his sleeves and keep delivering for the Bronx.
